Heidegger in China and Japan

The modern developments of Chinese and Japanese philosophical traditionshave engaged in depth with Heidegger's philosophy, but whatis the philosophical meaning of this reception of Heidegger's philosophy?This volume explores how the two philosophical traditionsinteract with Heidegger in their confrontation of the contemporaryphilosophical issue. By communicating the reception of Heideggerin China and Japan, we initiated a double transcendence of culturalboundaries - both East-West and Chinese-Japanese. This doubletranscendence offers an intercultural and inter-historical context forthe hermeneutic of philosophies. The essays chosen to be published inthis volume significantly demonstrated how Heidegger's philosophycontinues to provoke new questions and insights amidst interculturalconversation. Most of these questions and insights are shown to bevisible only within the intercultural context, and yet are closely relatedto the contemporary global world.
