What knowledge is the practice of social work based on? In which situations is which knowledge made explicit by whom (to whom)? With what intentions? With what consequences? What can be recognised and concluded from this? This book explores the use of knowledge in social work from the perspective of ethnomethodological conversation analysis. Based on an extensive data corpus of help plan discussions, Heinz Messmer shows how professionals generate knowledge in direct interaction with those affected (children, adolescents and parents), how this knowledge is processed in conversation, how and with what intentions it is made valid and what conclusions result from this.
