This new historical-critical edition of more than 15,000 of Goethe's preserved letters includes numerous letters (approx. 5%) never previously published. More than 2,000 letters previously available only in early printings or drafts have been transcribed for the first time directly from the manuscripts. The extensive commentary provided on Goethe's epistolary oeuvre is one of the highlights of the new edition.
