Keltische Schmelzmeister produzierten während des 6. und 5. Jahrhunderts v. Chr. bei Neuenbürg im Nordschwarzwald in großem Stil Eisen. Ausgrabungen belegten in den Jahren 2004 bis 2011, dass hier während der späten Hallstatt- und frühen Latènezeit eine zentral organisierte und hoch spezialisierte Eisenproduktion betrieben wurde. Zahlreiche außergewöhnlich gut erhaltene Verhüttungsplätze gehören zu den ältesten Nachweisen der Eisentechnologie nördlich der Alpen und sind ein über Baden-Württemberg hinaus bedeutendes montanarchäologisches Denkmal.<br>
